Opening of the 18th World Schools Orienteering Championship in Otepää

Today took place opening ceremony for 18th ISF World Schools Orienteering Championship in Otepää. During this week medals in long-, short distance and in team relay will find their owners.

The opening ceremony of the World Schools Orienteering Championships began with a gorgeous parade through the Tehvandi Stadium. Nearly 800 young people from 23 countries participated. A number of sports fans also welcomed the athletes.


Lauri Luik, President of the Estonian School Sport Union said, that it’s an icredible honour organizing the World Youth Championships. “I wish you all good luck and I hope everyone will find new friends here.”


The Vice-president of ISF, Robson Aguiar added, that the experience of learning about different cultures is something that will send the young people for years.


According to Leho Halda, the president of IOF, orienteering is a field which combines joy and sportiness. “I hope all of you will continue orienteering in the future and compete at the World Championship.”
